I will be checking periodically on the progress of the community center project. We are moving along in a long process. I have been communicating at least once each month with Taos County Grants Director, Anita Padilla. She has been gracious enough to answer my questions quickly when I do email her. Today, I emailed her and here is her latest update:
“The wood and steel materials have been purchased and are being stored at the center. Richard was up there last week to measure the perimeter of the exterior to start his material list for the base flashing which will seal the bottom edge of the wall panels. That will be purchased from the same vendor as the building. He stated that it was probably not a good idea to start until after the weather warms up, as the building would have to be heated. Phoenix Mechanical is going to be contractor for the electrical and mechanical and they are working on the scope of work and quote. Richard is researching the materials that will be needed for the rust remediation. We will purchase the materials but Richard will do the labor himself.”
As you can see, we are moving forward and that some things are going to have to wait until warmer weather. Until then we can focus on fundraising for our community center. On November 17, 2013, we will be having a Pancake Breakfast at the Amalia Senior Center. Tickets are $5.00 and will be available soon. You can also purchase your ticket at the door.
If anyone is interested in becoming a committee member or a volunteer for fundraising events, please contact me. We will always have something going on and need any help and talent you can offer.
