Amalia Neighborhood Meeting Notice

Well Hello Amigos!!

As you all can see, Fall has bestowed its beauty with gloriously colorful & beautiful foliage, the scent of leaves and earth is filling the crispy cool air,  and of course the  crazy winds are blowing through!  I hope you all are taking a few moments to enjoy it, and I am posting to let you know that we have a Amalia Neighborhood Association Public Meeting set for:

Friday, October 25th, at 7p.m. at the Amalia Senior Center GoldentLeaves1b

I hope to see as many of you there as possible.

Respectfully,

Christy Arguello

Temporary Cell Tower

ATTENTION CELL PHONE USERS!
A temporary cell tower has been set up near the old Amalia booster.  The tower will remain there for one year. The tower will be ‘studying’ the area for usage and coverage in order to justify the building of a permanent tower. We encourage you to use your cell phones when and wherever you can. Part of this study is to see how much usage is going through the tower. Please spread the word and use your cell phone!!

2013 Emerging Artist Show

The Fifth Annual Emerging Artist Show for youth from kindergarten through high school will be held on September 7 & 8, 2013 in conjunction with the Rio Costilla Studio Tour. The show gives youth an outlet to display their creative talent and encourage additional training in art with a professional artist.

Prizes including cash, art supplies and art lessons are awarded in four categories:

  • Kindergarten through 3rd grade
  • 4th through 6th grade
  • 7th and 8th grade
  • High School, 9th through 12th grade

There will also be a People’s Choice Award given to the artist whose art work gets the most votes from individuals attending the studio tour.

An application form must accompany all art work submitted for the show.  Guidelines for entries are included with the application forms.  For a copy of the application form or additional information, please contact Mary Ann Walz in Amalia at 575 586-2054 or Jane Kircher in Jaroso at 719 672-3063.

Cleanup and BBQ

The annual roadside cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, April 27.  There will be a large dumpster at the community center.  It will be available Friday night and all day Saturday and Sunday.  Please no tires or metal.  They should be recycled.  Garbage bags will be available at the community center starting at about 8.

We will have a BBQ at Pete and Ceilidh’s house at the corner of SR 196 and the Amalia School  Road. We have invited Legislators and Taos County officials to the BBQ so we can give them a BIG thank you in helping with the $150,000 appropriation for our community building. Senator Pete Campos, Senator Carlos Cisneros, Representative Bobby Gonzales, and Commissioner Larry Sanchez are scheduled to attend.

The BBQ will start at 12 after the cleanup.  A fabulous feast is planned including beef brisket, pork, and lamb cooked in a pit.   There will be numerous side dishes including slaw, baked beans and potato salad as well as other side dishes and desserts that community members will bring.  There will be beer kegs from Mesa Brewing Company in Taos and soda for the children.

Horse shoes will be set up so you can try your skills at that game.  There will be music from an I-Pod and we hope much merriment.

Please plan to join us for this fun event.  Bring something to share if you’d like.
